MSM is used widely as a supplement and has shown to have various benefits.
A few of these includes:
-relieves constipation
-helps with muscular aches and pains such as menstrual pain and back pains
-for hormonal balance
-helps heal skin conditions such as: acne, psoriasis, and skin rashes, to help lighten skin and reduce melasma, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation, to ease the reduction of wrinkles and stretch marks by increasing collagen in the skin and skin elasticity
-improves gut health and also to aid in the absorption of nutrients
-increases energy
-reduces inflammation in the body
-induces hair and nail growth
-helps improve arthritis
-aids in detoxification in the body and boost liver performance
-boosts glutathione in cancer patients as well as already healthy individuals. **Keeping yourself healthy, boosting your performance, preventing, and aging well all depend on keeping glutathione levels high. It is critical for immune function and controlling inflammation. It is the master detoxifier and the body’s main antioxidant, protecting our cells and making our energy metabolism run well. For all of the above reasons, is why I started taking MSM. I didn't know until much later that MSM is also taken because in certain cases it has also been linked to breast enlargement/growth. Currently, there is no clear scientific hypothesis to why MSM increases women's breasts size. Of course, there are theories, from DNA methylation to keratin and collagen formation, and also due to MSM ability to balance hormones, but they are still only theories. There aren't any definitive studies on why this happens.
If you do plan on taking MSM, I suggest that you make sure you get a high-quality brand that is derived from distillation (distillation is far superior that crystallization). I prefer to use OptiMSM because it is quadruple distilled and guaranteed for purity (it is sold on various websites/stores under different brands and prices. If it is OptiMSM it will say so somewhere on the label). But please make sure you don't buy MSM that is sourced from China or that has anticaking agents in it which will prevent you from receiving the many benefits of MSM. ONLY BUY PURE MSM WITH NO FILLERS!!
It is advised to start dosage low in the beginning of taking MSM to give your body some time to adjust. What I did when I first started taking MSM is I took 1/4 tsp on the first day, the second day I took 1/4 tsp in the morning and then again at night, I did that for a few days then I bumped it up to 1/2 tsp morning and night. Back then I eventually increased it to the point where I was taking 1 full heaped tsp morning and night, so over 2 tsp a day. Somedays I would even take an extra tsp midday. During that time, I had no adverse effects. On the contrary, I had a definitive increase in overall health and in bust growth. Now I take about 1 tsp a day, and I split it up through out the day. MSM has been shown to be safe taken at high quantities, some people take up to 3 tbsp a day or higher, with doctors saying that MSM is no more toxic than water. Clinical research studies have found that the effective amounts range from about 1.5 grams to 6 grams (and depending on what you are taking MSM for will determine how much you need to take).
When I take MSM I like to make sure it is fully dissolved in water and that way it is virtually tasteless. I notice that sometimes when I try to dissolve it in juice, I can taste it a little (has a mildly bitter taste). NOTE: MSM is highly volatile at high temperatures, so don't put it in hot drinks because it will just evaporate with the steam. It's best to put it into cool room temperature beverages. If you put it in ice cold water, you will still get the benefits but it may take a longer time for it to dissolve so you might end up tasting some of that bitterness.
MSM has so many benefits I couldn't possibly list them all, but if you want to learn more, this is a good place to start:
