Probably look up Kojic Acid if you want to know more about it. Kojic Acid isn't an "acid" in that sense of the word, as its pH is between 5-9 or pKa 9-10. Water is between pH 5-6 or pKa 14-16. Also there's been studies done using kojic acid in the eye albeit with rabbits but still the worst case was a red eyes for 10 minutes or so. And it doesn't peel skin off in the lightening process.
Thanks for the vote of concern though, that's sweet! I've done research into it so its time to put theory into practice. Also bacteria can grow in a saline solution so make sure to replace it every week. This is one of reason I stick with water/honey, alot easier to manage.
