Precise Bra Measurement Guide

My breasts measure just under 8" each, and with the 32 band I wear, that would make me a 32C. Not at all close. Because of my breast shape, I'm actually almost a 32E. :/ WAAAYYYYY off! Haha! 32DD bras give me quadraboob, there is no way I would ever fit into something 3 sizes down!

Maybe that's why women with implants look so much larger than the rest of us, because of the way they measure, they're squeezing into the wrong bra size.

BTW, is it just me, or did that woman in the pictures on that implant page have REEEAAAALLLYYY bad implants? I would hate to have expensive plastic surgery and come out looking like that!

Yh they look so bad implant I think that's why he says some women want fake looking implants. Mine measure 13.5

Doll—your own experience in bra sizing, AMAZING how shape affects sizing! Because, it’s true, this only takes two dimensions into account of the breast: width, and depth. There is always length to consider (distance between the top and the nipple, and the nipple and the bottom) at the very least! For me, most of the volume of my bust lies directly behind the nipple, so this suggested measurement will be representing the majority of which will be filling in the volume of the cup of my bra… whereas someone with the same measurement as I have might have more volume elsewhere in their breast, therefore having more total cubic inches in volume than I. Personally, it may sound a bit geeky, but this is so interesting! Now Abidrew, if we can only figure out exactly how shoulder width has an effect on the band size relation to the underbust measurement… hmmm…. but it won’t make much difference I guess to know, because there are SO many different bra measurement systems, so even if you get one to work for you all the rest won't be in agreement Dodgy

Mochaccino, really good point. That is a real set back to the “preciseness” of this method for those who do not have a definite “meeting point” of the breast tissue and the rib. I guess in that case an overbust measurement would be better?

And have you seen a fitting specialist, Abidrew? Did they have anything to say in the matter? I still have yet to do this, but I think it is something I will do as everyone should just to be sure. Who knows, what may be comfortable in my opinion may not be my best possible fit! I would like to find out.

That will be a LOT of work to gain one cup size! More power to you!! Wow. And yes, definitely your bra fitting can only get easier after this!

Quote:AbiDrew85 Wrote: Every single calculator I find that gets the band size right wants to put me in a cup size that's waaaaay too big!

And I saw something like these calculators you are talking about (http://www.thinandcurvy.com/2010/10/how-...rrect.html)… they put me in a 28”/30” band, and then put me in an E cup. Bahaha, if I’m an E, then I would not look as terribly pear-shaped as I do! So it appears to not be the same formula, since the other formulas when placed in a 30 band they put me in a C cup, so they are actually closer to being accurate, but not quite. I got to looking around at even more “ways to measure your bra size” and was a little bewildered because I used the same underbust and overbust measurements, and came up with so many variations of sizes… those that agreed on bands disagreed on cup size. So clearly, they all use different formulas even though they use the same measurements. Bah, I give up too. It would be nice if they all used some kind of universal cup sizing, like this: http://www.herroom.com/universal-cup-size.aspx But I have to say Abidrew, you inspired me to try to find a 30 band to try, and just see how that fits me… and I will be going to see a bra fitter!

And has anyone ever actually measured the band of a new bra? All of my new (and therefore without being stretched out of shape) 34 bands are exactly 26.5” total across the band: 25” at the inner-most eye, 25.5” at the second, and 26” at the outermost eye. Given the stretch in the band, it makes sense that it fits my 29” circumference (I will add that I like it snug on the inner-most eye, and I know in the last post I said I measured 30” but I just realized that you need to exhale while measuring your underbust, so I am 29”). But what silly monkey came up with the number labels of these bands? Just one more way to make things more complicated than they already are….*sigh*

Growing up I never took ANY pride in my bust (for obvious reasons, Tongue) and would literally just throw any old bra size on and go. They were always too big, and I knew it, but I really didn’t care. So, I apologize for my rookie-ness! I’m learning as I go, and all you wonderful people are a great help.

And yes, they are pretty "oogly" breast implants Rolleyes

I'm 9.5" across one breast [lol I actually got up to measure]. But anyways this system was actually designed for women who are D-Cups and up, I've read about the doctor of created this method, he said it was for his patients of opted to get D-Cups and above but had difficulty finding bras afters.

We should all just start doing water displacement to measure cup size! (of couse, adjusting for the band)

Strangely enough, both the method posted and the traditional add 4 or 5 inches work pretty well for me.

Mine fluctuate between 8.5-9" on the right and 9-9.5" on the left. In 32 bands I can wear between a c and a d cup, depending on the style of bra. It really does go to show how much shape can affect bra size! My breasts are wayyy smaller than both Doll and Emily Loretta, even though the measurement is similar!

I have 24.5/25" under the bust; Using the +5" method I would be in a 30dd, which is usually the size I need. I would NEVER EVER IN A MILLION YEARS be able to wear anything smaller than a 28. EVER. I'd be curious to see if others with bony ribs like mine have similar experiences or completely different!
