Trouble Understanding Lab Results

#1

Hi Ladies! I finally received the results of my Dr Lee's saliva panels but I'm having trouble reading/understanding them.

Some background - I am a 33 year old female on birth control. I've never had a regular period, sometimes missing several months at a time. Until this year BC has regulated this. This year I have had maybe 3 periods total. I haven't had one since June. I'm not pregnant. My doctors keep passing me off and show no concern. I have an appointment with a new specialist next month (earliest they could get me in) but I don't have the highest of hopes (been down this road before). I've attached copies of my hormone panel, can you help me understand it and what to do to normalize my levels?

It looks to me like my testosterone is low as are my androgens. I also look to be mildly estrogen dominant. Is this a correct interpretation? I'm so very confused!

You're just plain low everything. You so irregular you have no idea when that was taken in terms of menstrual cycle?

Thanks Smile My husband and I were trying to make sense of it last night to no avail. We figured out the low T, but were confused on the others, especially the ratio as there is no way to get a ratio of 100-500 based on the ranges they gave. Another website said the ratio should be 20 which makes more sense based on my 29 result.

I really have no cycle at this point. This year I had a period in January, March and June. July I had some spotting one morning and that was the end of it. I did the test based on when my pills said I *should* have one as that was the best I could do.

Hm. Just going on a hunch here, but try glandular therapy.

Have you ever been checked for thyroid or pituitary problems?

I was looking into glandulars, I just wanted to get my levels checked before I started anything new to really understand what is going on. Would the glandulars help bring up all of the levels or do you think I should try to balance out the hormones first? I'm having trouble sorting through all of the information! I spend hours on this site and searching others each day, it's seriously become an obsession.

I have had my thyroid checked (several times), although I had ALL of the symptoms of low thyroid my numbers were in check. I know the range is huge, but the specialist I was seeing didn't want to put me on medication to find the right level for me. I started seeing a chiro who found some blockages which helped with the excessive coldness and some of the other issues, but not everything. I feel like I've been fighting the medical system most of my adult life and each test only reveals more questions rather than any answers.

The doctor I am seeing next month is a 2 hour drive away but is an MD and holistic practitioner so my fingers are crossed maybe she can help figure out some sort of alternative therapy (or better yet what is causing all of this - her site says she doesn't like to just treat the symptoms, she likes to figure out the cause which is why I'm driving 2 hours to see her!).

I haven't looked into pituitary, I'll go research that a bit right now. Thank you for all of your help, you are such an amazing wealth of information on this site Smile

I'm looking at the lab results from my endo. My cortisol was pretty high (828, normal range for this lab is 123-626). However, he didn't run any other tests related to pituitary function. You'd think he would have...or at the very least pointed out it is high rather than telling me everything was in range. Dodgy

I'll go out on a limb here and say that I think you probably have a stressed pituitary, mildly hypothyroid, and severely underperforming ovaries.

The other two could be symptoms of the latter, because they are mild in comparison.

My opinion therefore is to try using a combination glandular therapy for all three. Swanson's sells glandulars for all of them. Take probably at least 4 of Swanson's BO 2 each in the morning and night, and 3, 1 three times a day, of Swanson's thyroid, and 2, 1 each morning and night of pituitary.

Or you can wait to see your naturopathic MD. Discuss all we've discussed, and propose my plan and see what they think.

It looks like we're on the same track here Wink I had already ordered the Swanson's BO and pituitary (unfortunately not the thyroid and they already shipped it so I'll have to pay shipping twice!). But then last night I told my hubby I'm not sure if I should start them when they get here or if I should wait so my body is "clean" when I go to the MD and the results aren't skewed based on what I've started.

I just have to say I'm so beyond frustrated with my body at this point and these boards are the only place I can really vent about this particular issue.

I went to the doctor early last month. She wanted new labs with me off of the BCP. So, I got off and per her instructions did the new saliva panels Friday. I've been dying to start the BO plan we discussed above but I really want some baseline numbers before doing anything. So, I was super patient, took the test this past Friday. It's supposed to be done on day 21 and that would have been day 21 according to my pills. Well, guess who got her first period SINCE JUNE on Sunday. So now I think the tests are useless because they weren't done on my new day 21. Grrr! I called before mailing them in and of course the doctor is out for a few days, so I'm sitting here waiting, unsure if I need to mail those in or wash them out and retake the test in another ~20 days.

In the meantime I've been a noogling and massaging fool but I really want to start a plan and get some growth.
