Understanding Hormone Test Results

#1

Hi

I would appreciate some advice on my hormone test results. I'm having difficulty understanding the readings.

I had the test on day 26 of a 30 day cycle. All hormones, except Testosterone, were measured using Abbott Architect Assay.

Serum progesterone 13.0 nmol/L (0.6>)
Serum Oestradiol 352 pmol/L
Serum Prolactin 405 mu/L
R Female Testosterone HI 1.7 nmol/L (<1.6)

0.7-3 nmol/L

Average progesterone
Average etradiol
A little high prolactin but probably normal
Average testosterone
Congratz you seem pretty well balanced.

For NBE try steroidal saponins (fenugreek, wild yam, goat's rue or shatavari) or maca since they have a balanced overall effect. Anywhere from 2 grams whole herb to 2 grams 50% saponin extract (effectively ~60 grams) and up. There isn't really an upper limit but start low and see what you can handle.

Or if you also use an herb that affects estrogen or progesterone, be sure to get something that affects the other one to balance it out. Use both. Amounts vary on these so find out what is a proper amount. Could be 40 mg or 2,000 mg, depends on the herb.

Hi

Thanks for all the info and advice, I didn't have a clue where to start.

I was thinking of taking PM day 1-14 of my cycle and taking vitex throughout.

My doctor said I also had high blood sugar so I think I'll try and get that down and do a cleanse with milk thistle before I start.

Do you think this is a good hormone blood test to take to find out if I'm estrogen dominant and what I should be doing for NBE? http://privatebloodtests.com/epages/www_...cts/EC0230
I posted a thread on this topic but Think it fits better here.

I'm thinking of going in for this next week, but don't know if i'd be making a mistake if it doesn't test for what I need to know.

Thank you so much for any advice Smile

PM is a strong phytoestrogen. >= 250 mg vitex lowers prolactin, while 40-125 mg vitex raises prolactin. Raising prolactin might raise progesterone but your prolactin is already high so who knows. It also has a small effect. Progesterone cream on the 2nd half of your cycle would be a stronger way to counterbalance the PM, or you could take less PM, or take something weaker than PM. OTOH it might take time to go out of balance even if you only take PM, since you have a good starting point.

Saponins such as fenugreek extract are excellent at lowering blood sugar, since besides increasing everything else they also increase sensitivity to insulin.
