No Poo Thread!

Hi guys. I had mentioned in my progress thread that I have been doing "no poo" for a little over a year, It sparked a conversation so I decided to start a thread for it. (I hope there isn't already one).
"No Poo" is basically not using commercial shampoos or hair care (silicons, sulfates, parabens etc...) to keep from striping the hair of it natural oils.

Start off references:

The most common "no poo" is baking soda and vinegar method

But here's a good video on why that doesn't work (Thanks Danim!)

There's tons of other ways of doing "no poo" like honey, soap nuts, castille soap,
Personally, I started with baking soda and vinegar went through a horrible 2 month transition phase of just grease, but once your body stops over compensating oil from being stripped everyday it levels out. Then my hair started becoming fizzy, brittle, and it was breaking and thinning. I though it was just because my hair had been damaged from bleach previously that the quality of my hair started to show (with out silicons to coat it). So I added Honey as a deep conditioner, I loooove that, I still do that occasionally. Then I found that Baking soda is basically a no go for hair and that why it was breaking. I just started using a honey wash instead, I don't remember why I switched from that but now I'm just using natural shampoo bars.

Has anyone else tried no poo? What's your thoughts on it? Do you have any cool natural hair care recipes or references?

Excited to check out these sources when I have more time. So far the conditioner/ baking soda/ vinegar has worked for me for several months, but we have very different hair textures. My friend, who is caucasion, mostly just washes her hair with water. Sometimes she uses lemon juice, baking soda, or vinegar- no chemical or lather wash at all. Her hair looks way better than before- thicker and darker because she is older and her hair was getting whiter. She thanks me for introducing her to no-poo. I wonder what else is out there. Always fun to learn about this stuff!
