Black Cohosh and Dong Quai not good for NBE???
December 12 2006 at 12:45 AM Corrie (Login Corrie73)
I just found this info on another site (http://www.ameri-breast.com/physician.html). Of course they are advertising their product, but the info looks like it could be valid. I am now wondering if I should cut Dong Quai out of my program!
Black Cohosh
Research has shown that the root has estrogenic activity and reduces levels of pituitary luteinizing hormone, thereby balancing the ovary's production of progesterone. Such action seems appropriate for treating menopausal symptoms, but including Black Cohosh in a product intended to increase breast size is inappropiate.
DONG QUAI
Dong Quai competitively inhibits estradiol binding to estrogen receptors and induces transcription activity in estrogen-responsive cells. It also increases uterine weight and decreases LH (luteinizing hormone) levels. Dong Quai contains Psoralen and bergapten which are photosensitizing and can cause severe photodermatitis. Psoralens are photocarcinogenic and mutagenic. Safrole, a consitituent of the dong quai essential oil, is carcinogenic. (Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database,2001)

Oh god damnit... I've been buying this really expensive supplement that costs $35 a bottle that has Black Cohosh in it thinking it'd be good for NBE. Now maybe that's what's slowed me down. Great. What a waste of money! =(

Good info Corrie. Lately I've been gathering those facts about herbs that have to do exculevly with NBE. I've even been considering about including black cohosh into my routine, good thing I read this.

Thanks ladies...I am really wondering now if dong quai has contributed to my slow-down...I actually just ran out of it, so I'll try my program without it.
It seems like a lot of herbal combos just add every "woman's" herb they can think of...but it seems like some of them really are not so good for NBE. I think the folks at wonderup and breast gain plus are using trial and error just like us! No wonder results are so unpredictable! I'll be leaving black cohosh, dong quai, and EPO out of my routine since there are serious doubts about them here on this board.

Just a general warning...

If anyone is taking black cohosh as part of her routine, please be sure that the herb one is taking is actually the correct type. According to one Dr. Edward Kennelly, a professor of biology at Lehman College, NY, "an analysis of black cohosh supplements on the market revealed that many don't contain the North American plant... Instead, they contain a related Asian species. A brand that does contain the beneficial plant: Remifemin."

Corrie's last message above is misleading. To set the record straight, the Wonderup product does not contain black cohosh, dong quai or EPO.

well girl nice thread
I've been on DQ complex for 1 year... It has 1600mg of DQ and 200mg of BC in the one pill.. and i take 3 per day! I found that without this pill my breasts got very very lumpy and unbearably tender. However my growth in the last year has not been staggering, the best thing that has happened to me is that now my breasts are the same size and shape.
I just got my period today... i wonder if i should drop this pill for a cycle to see what happens... What do you reckon girls? should i give it a try?
Other stuff i'm on currently = 1600mg Saw Palmetto, 1000mg fenugreek, 500mg Wild Yam & 250mg Ltyrosine (ALL 3X DAILY)
tHANKS love

Vicky is right...Wonderup does not contain either Black Cohosh or Dong Quai...which might be part of the reason that it is one of the more effective combinations!

just wanted to comment the ameri-breast product since it was the first one that i tried. It was cheap but it didn't work for me or nor for anyone else i think. i also remember reading about the guy producing it in his garage somewhere thus it could be even dangerous. i didn't care reading the page now but few years ago it had loads of spelling mistakes on website which convinces me about the scam.
