--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know that this does the androgen blocking thing, does anyone know how it directly effects DHEA, if at all. Ive been reading about the relationship between the two and cant find anything clear.
Im wondering bc I did that biotype test that was in the newcomers section and for mine it was saying increasing dhea, but I plan to implement SP in my program and dont want it making things worse.
BTW Ive been excessively reading on here for about a week now and this is a great site, with wonderful information Smile
TIA

Hi Noodles,

Good question.

In men Saw Palmetto reduces is the harmful effects of DHT dihydrotestosterone, a testosterone metabolite. In women I believe the effect is to reduce the total testosterone level. However, there are no scientific studies that verify this. Testimonial information offers that Saw Palmetto seems to help with hith testosterone, but the actual mechanics are unknown.

DHEA is a precursor to both testosterone and estrogen. I would advise reading this before you would use it:

http://www.raysahelian.com/dhea.html

He offers some sage advice. You can also check his site for info on Saw Palmetto.

So - do the two go together? I don't know the scientific answer. I think if a woman took Saw Palmetto and DHEA together she might increase estrogen but not testosterone... just my guess though...

Best wishes,
waxingmoon

Ok, maybe I'll just leave it alone and start with my original plan, not using the dhea until I do more research at least. Im not even a hundred percent sure that I need that, the bio did seem pretty accurate though lol

Hi, Moon. I just saw your other 2 responses in the PM forum (I forgot to do the alert thing) and I think Im more confused now.
I didnt realize that needing DHEA meant you were progesterone deficient. I thought DHEA was just for estrogen and testosterone. I just reread the link you sent me about DHEA and also read the one on pregnenolone which i see is like a precursor to dhea-(estrogen-testosterone)and progesterone.
so if raising dhea raises both of those thatd mean someone deficient in it was low in both estrogen and testosterone. So where does the progesterone fit in? I just realized today that the biotype also said to add pregnenolone.
So from reading your links Im thinking that estrogen, testosterone and progesterone are all low? Do I have it right?
It's funny bc I feel like my hormones are balanced, based on the test and lack of symptoms
I was thinking that when I was younger I mightve had slightly raised testosterone bc Im not excessively hairy, but probably more than an average woman, also high sex drive, fast metabolism and no pms/cramping/period issues at all, or acne.
After my last pregnancy though (and copper iud four months later) I felt more out of wack, more emotional, lower spirits, I spot a couple of days before my real period starts, and have occasional pimples throughout my cycle. Im still on a 28 day cycle though. So Im thinking maybe I have more estrogen than I used to, but still balanced. Any thoughts on that?
The only weird thing is that test from this link...
http://www.biotype.net/types/index.htm
The profile fits me very well so I kind of believe that I do need what they say (the pregnenolone and dhea) I thought I had it all figured out lol.
Well so far I've only started on
flax seed oil (1000mg 2x),
gingko (60mg 2x),
evening primrose (1000mg 1x- since yesterday) and just today
fenugreek (610mg 2x)

Im scared to do the sp and anything else until I work out this hormonal stuff. I think what Im taking already is pretty generic and not hormone disruptive.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry it was so long Smile

I would definitely put Saw Palmetto in your programme, the only side effect I had from Saw Palmetto was a higher sex drive, and your stats in terms of high testosterone, high metabolism, no period pain etc...are very like mine.
I think Saw Palmetto was very important to my growth, I am going to use it again!

Really? Thats good to know. I might go ahead and try it in another week or so. Ive added a bunch of other stuff and its only been 2 weeks now, so I want to be sure im not overdoing it.
Did you happen to take the biotype quiz? or the regular hormonal imbalance one? It seems like most people are e dominant or deficient, just wondering whats been working for people that arent.
Thanks!
