Yes GABA can work like melatonin during the day (I need the opposite, melatonin makes me sleep):

As a supplement, GABA increases Human Growth Hormone (HGH). Hops also increases HGH, see my post above. Most people here take placenta for HGH, and GorgeousBlonde found some alternatives:

NearlyThereGcup uses only L-arginine (10,000 mg!) for HGH with a multi and PM.

Hubby is a health nut; we're both 46, and he is the same weight as when he was in high school, and weighs less when we first got together 25 yrs ago. A little bit skinny, in my opinion, 162 lb, 6' tall, but exactly my type: tall, wiry, and lean.

That explains why I why was wonked out last Sunday night. I couldn't even get up to give my little one (5 yr old) a bath. This happened again Tues. morning when I forgot to drink my 2 cups of sencha green tea before taking my herbs. Today, I drank my customary 2 cups of green tea before taking my herbs orally in powdered form mixed in yogurt and lemon juice, and guess what, I didn't fall asleep. I did it again this afternoon, making sure I had a cup of green tea first, and voila, still awake.

Oh yeah duh..GABA is HGH..thanks I forgot about the L-arginine that would be a good one..I believe Wahaika said GABA is good during the winter at night..

since it's questionable if GABA supplement can cross the blood brain barrier, i switched to taking L-glutamine - which urges your brain into making more HGH. i'm not sure what the difference is between L-glutamine and L-arginine?

The wikipedia page on HGH is interesting:

It lists L-arginine, but not L-glutamine to increase HGH. Off the top of my head, L-arginine is a body builder thingy, and L-glutamine is more brainy. My dad used to buy it for me when I was trying to wrap my head around engineering math.
There is also an interesting statement in the wikipedia page: only human or primate GH is useful for humans. Chimp placenta, anyone? Big Grin

I will look into the NIH fact sheets next. I wasn't planning on supplementing for HGH before fall, but this may take a while.

Hi Isabelle,

Been busy and tired..had maga cramps yesterday and craved a took aleeve well it helped alot..it was so painful if I walked I got a sharp pain up right leg and couldnt stand long enough without feeling like I was going to pass out..it was like the pain I use to get in high school but this only last a few hours they use to last 2 daysHuhAngryand back then I bled so much and the pain I would miss a least 1-2 days of school from it..this is a weird period..I had pain but not very long and heavy bleeding but not that long yes still bleeding and some dull pains today by tomorrow I will feel close to normal and I will bet I should be totally done after 5 days...anyway...L-glutamine bodybuilders use it mostly right after a workout or is it after or both for faster recovery and helps with post workout soreness..so maybe that is helping HGH..I took an SP today again...yes testing the waters of SP again but I am taking it at 4-5 at night..if I start gaining too much I will just take every other day..I havent taken my msm and vitc or collagen since my period the though of taking them makes me nausous sp? weird..I will try and take them tonight but feeling pretty dam good..my mood (mind well I guess that is what makes the mood...haha) is so even..I havent felt this way in a long long time...I love this PM or it is my whole new regimen..anyway back to you ...it seems like anything you take if I took it would be a no no...hops well my gut feeling on that is "hell no"...green tea makes me feel like coffee should..like I said before most of the time I have a reverse effect..ok speaking of coffee going to have one with a cig..yeap you heard me ...hahaha..the two I cant give up now but with this change of eating and supps I am naturally having less of each..talk later..wow did I ramble or what..lolBig Grin

I hope you're feeling better by now. At least you are on time: many women on PM are two weeks late. And the pain: it must be hell, but there is also a positive there: if your body goes back into teenage mode, your program must be working! And a more even mood is what many women here report between the lines. On the male NBE forum, it is often mentioned as an advantage of PM. Transsexuals on hormones used to be plagued by moodswings Big GrinSadAngrySmileBig GrinSadAngrySmile

My routine is very different, but it seems to be working too: shoots yesterday, so I stayed on 2 tablespoons on hops (2000 mg). Don't know about tonight yet: either add FG or take out the oat flakes or the broken flaxseed. I have a feeling those two just complicate the story. Simple programs work best, like MydreamisGcup's.

Yes Isabelle I so agree that simple is so much better.. I have been doing alot of experimenting since my period started..I figured since I have not feeling to taking anything even certain foods cause the thought of some of them sound gross or would make me feel like crap..so I just kept taking the PM and borage oil and even the oil I cut down..I am actually tired of taking so much or not knowing when to take which ones together so today I am going to come up with a good plan that works for me..anyway...sounds like hops is better for you because of the testostrogon sp?..correct?...Im sorry just feeling a little foggy this morning so if I dont make sense...that is why..I do feel better but whatever I took last night it gave me a slight headache..

Foggy thinking and headaches are symptoms of estrogen dominance. And you need the estrogen to grow. Make sure you have enough magnesium and zinc though.

And yes, hops is an easy herb because it is an anti-androgen itself. The better it works, the more it will do to stop breakouts, facial hair, etc. I'm surprised so few male NBEers use it...
