Aguaje (Mauritia flexuosa) is from the palm family. It contains mauritic acid in its roots, and Buriti oil is made from its fruits.

If it works it's, at least partly, because of its nutrition properties, including complex fatty acids, and because palms generally have anti-DHT properties. At least three palm plants are toxic, so you get the idea that not all palms can be used.
