Hi Msla,
I took vitex while doing NBE. I also used progesterone cream.
Following my use of vitex I took Goat's Rue which I think helped bring my prolactin level back up before it became too much for my estrogen dominance -thus I quit all herbs.
Vitex did not seem to interfere with my growth.
If you are strongly estrogen dominant then you may not respond well to NBE without balancing your hormones. Even with hormones balanced, a woman who is prone to strong estrogen dominance may not do as well with herbal NBE. I am such a case. Although I have grown quite a bit and kept all of my growth - herbal stuff just throws me out of balance and I now pursue suction method NBE.
There are several women who have experienced growth when they used vitex. It is entirely plausible for this to happen. In a women who has low progesterone one of the first effects of progesterone increase is an activation of dormant estrogen receptors. When those estrogen receptors wake up they can stimulate breast growth. This can go on in spite of a lowering of prolactin.
Ultimately, even with good research - we don't know how an herb will effect us until we try it.
Best wishes,

Hi Msla,
For me it was the progesterone cream that helped me the most. Vitex can work, but only if you ovulate. It works to increase the amount of progesterone produced by the corpus luteum after ovulation.
I am of an age where I don't always ovulate. The vitex did not seem to enhance my ovulation rate, nor did it seem to control the estrogen dominance symptoms I had.
I tried vitex the first time after I had begun using progesterone cream - about 2 months into PC use. It did seem to help me feel less anxious during the first part of my cycle. After about 9 months I stopped PC use and continued with vitex for a full 9 months. Then I stopped it as well. I tried vitex by itself again for several months but it did not reduce my estrogen dominance symptoms. Progesterone cream (and lifestyle changes) has been the only thing to help with that.
I am probably not a typical person since most don't have my estrogen dominance pattern. I know a few women on here have had it to the extent I do and they too seem to respond better to PC.
The thing that vitex has going for it is that it will never cause you to create an overabundance of progesterone. It works within the body's natural control to limit the amount of this hormone. That makes vitex safe to use. It does seem to lower prolactin - however - some reports say that at very low doses it seems to aid in lactation - perhaps it raises prolactin when at very low dosages. I am not sure if those low doses would enable it to help raise progesterone.
If you have estrogen dominance enough to show up as low progesterone on a saliva test then you would probably do fine using progesterone cream. It would be necessary to read up on how to use it (the book "What your doctor may not tell you about premenopause" by Dr John Lee).
Remember though - too much progesterone cream is as bad as too little. Be very cautious when altering your hormone levels.
I may be one of the few who did achieve growth while battling major estrogen dominance and while using vitex. I believe my growth is due to my understanding of my own personal hormonal conflict and my efforts to bring my body to balance. I have constantly changed my NBE plan based on the feedback of my own body. My long-winded program page is testimony to that.
Go as armed into treating hormone imbalance as you can - saliva test, blood test, etc. Remember that a hormone imbalance doesn't come out of nowhere. Estrogen gets high or progesterone gets low for a reason. Treating a symptom does not have lasting value. Resolve the underlying issue if possible and your symptoms will abate.
