good herb for acne?

I think i read on this forum that vitex is good for acne. I'm 40 and still have acne. If I start to take vitex will it make a direference to acne? What about other herbs for this problem?

I have had bad acne since the age of 13. I have been through loads of stuff, my last resort was accutane and that didn't last. I thought the vitex would clear up my skin, but it didn't. It didn't make it worse, but I am still breaking out as usual.
A previous thread talks about acne and herbs, I know that if you have a lot of androgens which, I have, then taking B vitamins, and saw palmetto, and zinc should help.
I also know that nature's way makes a good herbal blend for your skin, its called AKN skincare and that should help a little. Everyone's body is different, mine unfortunaley sucks, lol and I have tried everything for my acne. But taking vitex is also good, for PMS and all that stuff, I would try it anyways, because its a pretty good herb in general. Good luck!

Have either of you tried the ProActiv solution? I battled adult acne as well and found ProActiv works really well. You have to continually use the product for at least 8 weeks to see the results though. I also found that once a day was enough for me..not twice like they recommend. I found twice a day dried my face out really badly. So I used it once a day and then just washed with warm water at the end of the day.

Yes I have used it. It worked quite well in the beginning, but after about 6 months it stopped working. I think my body got used to it so I decided to switch it out with something else. I agree though, that it does work really nicely, but for me it stopped.

Hi, I have have mild to moderate persistent acne since about 14. I tried MSM it is a joint supplement it's very good for inflammation. It worked better on me than anything else took away redness and almost all pimples.It worked well enough for my friends and family to ask what I was using. I also use acnefree products with it, but I was using those prior to getting the MSM with only minimal results. You can get MSM which is a form of sulfur at most health food stores. Acnefree which has been compared to proactive you can get at walmart. I was taking about 2000mg per day. Sometimes you need to play with it a little and use a higher or lower doseage, I guess it depends on the severity or your skin. Hope this helps.

The best thing ever that helped my acne was the Dr. Perricone Acne Prescription diet. The book is at any bookstore most likely and the diet was easy for me to follow, i ate chicken and tuna instead of the salmon (too expensive) and I no longer have acne, and that was two years ago when I did that.

Acne at 40 is not the same as acne at 20 because shin is older and have other needs. My skin is no longer oily and rinkles start to apear so I can not use stuff to dry my skin. i must use anti-age cream and try to combat acne from inside because all creams I know for acne makes skin very dry.

I've heard of vitex for acne, but haven't tried it so far. Maybe I should.
Some people swear by applying a mixture of honey and cinnamon to the affected area (yes really). I tried this but it didn't work for me, but then nothing ever has.
Drinking vinegar was something else I tried.
One thing I can recommend for healing acne (not preventing it) is the sudocrem for nappy rash. It might be intended for babies, but it works a treat on healing up acne.
