You might like to check out this -
http://www.skinstreet.net/acne.html
It says -
Do acne normally occur in teenagers ?
Acne is more common in the age group of 13 - 30 years but it may occur or persist even beyond this age limit. Males are more frequently affected than females due to androgen activity. Females may get a pre-menstrual flare due to the increase in level of a hormone called Progesterone.
So yes, it is most likely that the progesterone cream is causing the breakouts. The cream is normally taken by menopausal women prior to mentruating because their own bodies no longer produce enough estrogen.
If you aren't at the menopausal stage yet, chances are you body is still producing a high enough progesterone level before a period. It is possible you are overloading your body with it by using the cream.
My thoughts on the prog experiment was to take it after a bleed when the natural prog levels dip to a low.
I would reckon that once you stop it your skin will return to normal again. In the meantime, take a zinc supp and Vit C........and lots of water to flush your system.

This worked for me!
October 17 2006, 8:38 PM
One word: Proactiv! I don't know if you've ever heard of it, but I think the website os proactiv.com. It should be easy to find. It is a three step system (face wash, toner, and moisturizer), and it is the best thing in the world!!!!!! I had tried EVERYTHING on the market NO JOKE. And nothing worked. Then I had my first first prom coming up (I was in 11th grade) and I needed to have clear skin because I was starting to model as well! I was desperate and finally ordered Proactiv (my mom wouldn not buy it, but I had FINALLY gotten my own debit card so I did it on my own) and I stuck with it for a month like they told me, and there was such a HUGE!!!! improvement. It even got rid of my old acne scars/marks, but that took a few months. After a about 2-3 months of continuous usage, random people started complimenting me on my skin! I had never gotten that before! Just make sure that if you try it, you stick with it. And of course, don't touch your face (no more squeezing!!! that was hard for me to give up), and if your face starts getting dry/peely, try using it less (like once a day rather than twice). I know I sound like a billboard for this product, but I seriously LOVE it! It is the best thing that has happened to me! It is about $45 (including shipping/handling) but it lasts a while. I get my shipments every four months now (they start you at two month intervals, but you can change it), and I think it is worth the investment to have GUARANTEED clear skin! Occasionally, I may get a TINY bump here and there when I'm on my period, but no redness, usually it doesn't even fill with that icky stuff. It's just a little bump that goes away in a few days. My acne was not terrible (it was not all over my face), it was mostly on my forehead, but the zits I had got huge! And disgusting!!! Plus, they left marks and scars, which was not pretty at all. For my first photo shoot, they had to put on SO MUCH concealer and they had to edit out all my zits, and it was just pitiful. I was so depressed, but let me tell you, after a month of sticking with my Proactiv routine, my skin just kept getting better and better. Even the herbs in NBE that having been messing with my hormones haven't caused me to breakout! Anyway, this is getting freakishly long, but if you are truly having trouble, I highly HIGHLY recommend Proactiv!!!

u have to stick with it
October 17 2006, 11:41 PM
I don't know how long you tried it for, but generally, at least a month is required, and if your skin starts getting too dry, you have to use less, and take it easy. And yes, sometimes your acne will get worse before it gets better, because the medicine (proactiv, or whatever u are using) has to bring to the surface all of your impurities. so those zits that u didn't know were there, are actually lurking underneath your skin and they will come up when the medicine starts working. My zits did get a little bit worse, mostly because of dry skin, but then it got dramatically better after continuous use. I also had to use it only once a day for a few weeks until my skin got used to it. It takes time, but I haven't had a "real" zit for almost two years now! And my hormones are completely out of whack lol

my bf has acne and he has been on proactiv for about a year. it helps him out a little but not all that much.
maybe try something with tea tree oil in it? i went to the body shop and they recomended a mixture of their tea tree oil line and seaweed line, with vitamin e cream as a moisturizer to keep the skin from drying out.
another idea i've heard that helps is to catch some sun. i know that tanning beds are not all that safe, but i'm sure that once in awhile won't be too bad. i noticed that in the summer my face and my bfs face are a lot clearer and i've heard that small doses of UV are good for clearing up the face.
maybe talk to your doctor about it too. he or she can recommend some helpful things for you!
good luck!!

Pro Activ is too harsh... I only use the lotion to put on spots if I have them. Otherwise it's way too harsh. It's basically bleach...and it bleaches out everyhthing it touches.

BIG ACNE PROBLEM
October 18 2006, 1:34 AM
I was taking herbs but had to stop because of the side effects, break outs being one of them. I went to my doctor and he gave me a prescription for erythomycin-benzoyl peroxide topical gel. I also use proactive but these were weird break outs. I never experienced this as a teenager and now I'm 42 and my skin is freaking out. Originally the proactive worked great but found that my hormones and stress combo was causing this this eractic skin problem. This gel works great, it's used a spot treatment. Also lots of water, and recently I heard that eating citrusy fruits (oranges, grapefruits) are really good for acne. Good luck to you!

My sister tried proactiv and she loves it as well. You can really tell when she runs out as she starts to break out within a week. Proactiv has really normalized her sebum (oil on face) production. I have never used it: i use over the counter sacyllic acid (clean & clear) to prevent, and benzyl peroxide (penoxyl) to get rid if i get one. These products i use sporadically as they are powerful stuff, but i dont have much acne and it works.
i also have a friend who used to have bad acne, and one day he started putting green tea bags on his face (i know it sounds weird! ) he would drink a cup of tea, and then use the tea bag over his face (dont put sugar!) and lay in the sun for a few minutes each morning. he has perfect skin now.
oh! i'm also on the bcp pill Diane 35, and i have had NO acne problems since then. I know of 3 other girls who've been on this bcp and it cleared up all our acne - its good stuff, but more expensive then other pills (around 30$ but i have insurance so....) However before you get this bcp beware that i have not grown on any of my programs, so i'm actually thinking of switching my bcp to Yasmin which is supposed to be similar to Diane35, but not as strong or somethign

Re: BIG ACNE PROBLEM
October 18 2006, 4:59 AM
heres from my previous post about diane35
Diane-35 contains two hormones: cyproterone acetate, a progestogen, and ethinyl estradiol, an estrogen. Cyproterone acetate inhibits the influence of androgens and reduces the activity of the sebaceous gland which plays an important role in the development of acne and seborrhea.
"What's unique about Diane-35 is its ability to block androgen activity at the pilosebaceous unit," Belisle said. "While all oral contraceptives may decrease the production of androgens to some extent, only Diane-35 decreases the ability of androgens to bind to their receptors, improving signs of androgenisation such as acne, seborrhea and hirsutism in women.

i used the proactive a little over 2 months. i belive that it only works on some skin types, maybe fat skin types.I have a dry skin type that is pore on humidity. my skin got very dry and tight right away from the proactive. to peel is tough on your skin and you where suposed to do that twice aday. (there where peeling in step one) when i stopped using it and bought a right product for my skin the acne got a lot better right away.
i am not on bcp because i get problems with depresson and anxiety, so i hate them. My hormones is always out of wake that is why i decided to try the progesterone cream to get controll of my PMS but so far i only got worse acne.

SOLUTION
October 19 2006, 3:58 AM
I had cystic acne since from age 14 (you know the type that makes you look like you have big boils over your face!). It was so bad I started taking the pill. I AM NOW 29 AND MY SKIN IS ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS (not kidding) I receive compliments every day. Hard to believe isn't it and I don't even have any scars.
I don't know what exactly made it go away but this is my routine:
* clean face morning & night with 'Simple' Facewash and 'Simple Face Scrub'
* moisturise morning & night with 'Simple' Moisturising Cream
* apply face mask 3x week with 'Blackmores' Face Mask - this gets rid of the oil clogged in the pores
* I also take Imedeen Skin Tablets
* I take a multivitamin every day (Swiss Brand)
* I drink at lest 2 litres water every day
* I try not to stress anymore as stress is a major cause of pimples
* apply 'Ultraceuticals' Ultra Hydrating Gel once every 2 days
* apply 'Ultraceuticals' Ultra C once every few days
* Dab on Benzoyl Peroxide 5 or 10% (available from pharmacy)direct onto pimple (this will dry it up)
I am not on the contraceptive pill anymore but being on this may help.
My skin complextion is like peaches and cream now.
