I read somewhere in the forum that some NBE herbs are good for acne. Is it Vitex or other?

Do you have a hormonal imbalance that is causing your acne? Vitex should balance hormones but otherwise whatever herbs counteract the imbalance you have. Going on the pill has really improved my skin. Zinc based face cream is good too (Potter's skin clear). Also if your skin is greasy anything with salicylic acid (externally) but if your skin's dry then this will give you wrinkles! Borage oil is supposed to be good for skin too esp if you have dry skin, collagen capsules would be another possibility.

I dont know if i have a hormonal imbalance. I'm 40 and have acne since 15. When i was on the pill it was better.
But now i cant take the pill because off my stomach.
Because of fmy age i cant put things on my face to dry the skin because off wrinkles.
So do you think vitex will be good?

I have battled acne forever...since I was 13 and I think Saw Palmetto would be a really good idea, and also vitex.
The theory is, the androgens in your body which is testosterone (which is an androgen), once you have an excess of that, the testosterone fuels the body into make excess sebum production (oily skin) and therefore, if your pores clog easily because of the excess amount of oil then you get acne.

This is the only logical explanation for myself. I have done accutane and tons of other stuff, but its always there...and with trial and error I have pretty much nailed down the cause and the reasons.
I would take Saw Palmetto which is an anti-androgen and see if it clears up. Vitex is also a good one, but I heard that although it is great for imbalances, it also increases the progesterone and decreases the estrogen which leads to balancing...and not necessarily helping with NBE. It works for some, I mean it worked for me, but it might affect others differently.

Well I hope I helped. Good luck!

Yes Kary, when I was on Saw palmetto my acne was better and my boobs also, but the problem was that it made me a lot of cellulite and that was bad because i'm not fat but now i have cellulite on my legs and cant loose it.

Yes I do have a big cellulite problem as well...I haven't noticed if it actually has made it worse or not, to the looks of things it hasn't but that is a very good observation...I would definatley try vitex then and see where that goes...oh what about spearmint tea??? That is supposed to lower your androgens if you drink it on the beggining of your cycle for 5 days.

Vitex actually gave me acne. Only when I started with vitex did I get it.
