I'm guessing that you are still fairly young? My interpretation of what you've described is that, possibly, your hormones were still a bit out of balance from puberty, with possibly excess Testosterone/DHT floating around and that could well be the cause of the acne.
SP acts to prevent the formation of DHT and that should have sorted out the acne problem in itself. Preventing the conversion of T to DHT, as a side effect leaves the T available to be converted into oestrogens in a perfectly normal bodily biochemical reaction, and that in turn may account for the boob growth you experienced at that time.
So whoever told you to take SP for acne was correct, and your mother saying that it was just a puberty thing was also right, in a way, although the SP didn't actually cause the growth, it just provided the conditions in which they were able to grow naturally.
If your natural hormone balance has sorted itself out now, the chances are that you may not get the same effect if you start SP again.
