It comes with a cord, or you can put two AA batteries in it to make it portable. I use rechargeable ones so that I'm not constantly having to replace them 
The nice thing about using batteries is it reduces the suction so that it's more at a tolerable level.. even at the low setting it's really way too strong when it's plugged into the electrical outlet.
It has two intensity setting.. high and low.. and then it has + or - buttons that are supposed to adjust the intensity... mine don't work.
In all fairness, the distributor has offered to let me send the unit back and exchange it for one in which those buttons function.
I wonder whether I'll have to pay for shipping... I'll let you guys know just FYI.
