Aromtase/DHT and MSM

#1

Hey there fellow NBE'ers =D
Not sure if this is the right category...but oh well here we go

Ive been researching DHT & basically have found that too much DHT can inhibit breast enlargement, and can also cause hair growth (facial -chin & cheeks mainly; body hair thats excessive, "masculine" & dark)

I have facial hair, ESPECIALLY on the sideburns/cheeks & Chin!!!! & have some body hair, excessive & darker on the arms & tummy.. not so much on my back.

anyways, I've read that Aromatase is an enzyme that turns DHT/TESTOSTERONE into ESTROGEN =]]]
does anyone know of the BEST HERBS, AND FOODS, OR OILS OR W/E that are aromatase ?!?!?!?

also, i was researching MSM after Missed Miss told me about it.. basically its a Sulfur that helps with joints, hair, nails & skin because it boosts collagen growth...it is also helpful w/ breast growth because our boobs have collagen in them.. anyways does anyone know of the BEST MSM brand, or have had good growth with a specific one??

MUCH APPRECIATED TO ALL xoxoxoxo
good luck to us ALLLLL <3

An oil rich in GLA like borage or evening primrose will elevate PGE1 which increases aromatase. White peony is another method. I find it darkly hilarious that LEF sells it as an immune booster and is apparently oblivious to its hormonal effects.

Aromatase only works on testosterone, so you'll need a 5-AR inhibitor like reishi, pygeum, pumpkin seed oil, or saw palmetto to prevent DHT production. I'm less certain about reishi after having looked for pharmacokinetic data. I can't find any human data, and rats metabolize at least one of the reishi triterpenes rapidly so it has a half-life of a few hours. That's OK for rats because they nibble on their food all day, but could be problematic for humans taking it only once or twice a day. (The immune boost doesn't need reishi to be constantly in your system, but 5-AR should be continuously blocked.)

The other 5-AR inhibitors I listed have beta-sitosterol which has a nice half-life measured in days.

MSM is a straightforward molecule so any good brand would work. I've used Now and Doctor's Best.

Thank you for your reply, Candace!!!! =]
Not sure what GLA, PGE1, or 5-AR is.. really not too sure what you're talking about... I'm kinda slow at this science thing.

basically, i got that I can take Saw Palmetto, which will prevent DHT production??? (i haven't heard or ever seen the other herbs you named, but i do know how to get my hands on some SP!! lol)
& take evening primrose or borage as an aromatase???

So I can take both SP & either EP or Borage together to stop my testosterone & change it into estrogen??? am i understanding this correctly?

Now or Dr's Best - Got it, thank you, Candace!

Thank you so much once again for your response!!!!! xoxoxox

GLA is gamma linolenic acid. It's an omega-6 fatty acid that is in between linoleic acid and arachidonic acid in the metabolic pathway. But it can also be turned into the prostaglandin PGE1, which is anti-inflammatory, increases aromatase, and stimulates growth hormone and prolactin release.

5-AR is the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which converts testosterone to DHT.

I was very interested by your recent posts relating to MSM. Do you think that taking MSM might help repair my linea alba?

Greetings, hugs and best wishes

Hi Annie,

You know, it took a while sifting through the published material about MSM, I've found one really has to be objectionable when analyzing the results. To me, it's amusing to find results stating there's insufficient clinical research, ha!.

Anyways, MSM from a clinical standpoint relieves oxidative stress, anti-cancer properties, decreases muscle damage, suppresses breast cancer, anti-inflammatory, helps relieve osteoarthritis, etc..etc.

Annie, I couldn't find anything that suggests MSM can repair your linea alba, only consuming foods that boost collagen can help repair the diastasis. I'm no doctor that's for sure, so I can't offer a medical opinion at all, however I can tell you that I take MSM myself and believe it helps for me. So, I hope in part the info provided may help in some way. Wink

45-24-45, here's some info on aromatase:

(14-05-2014, 17:34)Lotus Wrote:  Here's some foods that can boost or inhibit Aromatase:

Foods that inhibit aromatase include blueberries, celery, sour cherries, cranberries, red grapes, purple grape juice, horseradish, kale, tomatoes, white button mushrooms and cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts

Aromatase Boosters
soy protein isolate, sunflower oil, soybean oil, corn oil and alcohol.

http://www.livestrong.com/article/445623...aromatase/

Side effects of aromatase inhibitors
Aromatase inhibitors tend to cause fewer serious side effects than tamoxifen, such as blood clots, stroke, and endometrial cancer. But aromatase inhibitors can cause more heart problems, more bone loss (osteoporosis), and more broken bones than tamoxifen, at least for the first few years of treatment. If you and your doctor are considering an aromatase inhibitor as part of your treatment plan, you may want to ask your doctor about having a bone density test to see if a bone strengthening medicine might be necessary while you're taking the aromatase inhibitor.

We use Herbals and prescription MEDs, (diet helps too) Herbal and Pharma both carry risks though, it's important to consult with your physician before starting a course of either.

Meds

* Finasteride - this drug is approved for both BPH and male pattern baldness. Researchers from George Washington University reported in the Journal of Sexual Medicine that Propecia (finasteride) may be linked to a side effect of sexual dysfunction, which may be permanent, i.e. the problem may persist even after the treatment is completed.

* Dunasteride is much more potent than finasteride. However, these types of medications may have side effects that persist even after treatment is over. Side effects may include erectile dysfunction, male breast cancer risk, and a diminished sex drive. Some studies suggest there may even be a higher risk of depression, memory loss and brain fog (inconclusive).

Herbals

Saw palmetto-Beta-sitosterol is a natural alpha-adrenergic receptor blocker. Prevents DHT from accumulating in prostate tissue that would otherwise cause excessive cell growth and inflammation. The plant steroids in saw palmetto also act on progesterone receptors, an action that causes a reduction in estrogen levels.

Nettle Root--Binds to SHBG (hormone that binds to excess hormones by decreasing hormone levels), and decreases 5ar and aromatase. Taking this tends to increase estrogen and testosterone. Would need to be taken with a pro-aromatase, and maybe estrogen.

Pumpkin seed oil-Pumpkin Seed Oil: Has been demonstrated to inhibit DHT formation through the inhibitory effect on 5-alpha-reductase activity. Pumpkin seed oil breaks down DHT via the liver.

Reishi-reishi mushrooms significantly reduced levels of 5-alpha reductase, preventing conversion of testosterone into the more potent DHT. High levels of DHT are a risk factor for conditions such as benign prostatatic hypertrophy (BPH), acne, and baldness.

White Peony--Estrogenic, blocks 5ar and pro-aromatase - Strong.
A compound found in white peony inhibits the production of testosterone and promotes the activity of aromatase, which converts testosterone into estrogen.

Green Tea Epigallocatechin-Green tea (camellia)-Reduce's the conversion of free testosterone into DHT and also raises SHBG (sex-hormone-binding-globulin).

Pygeum-include phytosterols that inhibit the production of dht. Pygeum also reduce's prolacting levels and block the accumulation of cholesterol in the prostate. Prolactin increase's the uptake of testosterone by the prostate. Pygeum reduces the levels of DHT in the blood and reduces the number of sites where the dht can attach.

Chinese Skullcap Inhibits the 5alpha-reductase enzyme-
Baicalein has been shown to inhibit the 5alpha-reductase enzyme, which converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is strongly associated with the development of prostate enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia) and prostate cancer. As such, baicalein is reported to be potentially useful for the prevention and/or treatment of androgen-dependent (testosterone-driven) disorders, including prostate enlargement and prostate cancer.

This is a partial list, other things to consider is diet,

Foods that block DHT

Wheat germ
Sesame oil
Canola oil
Peanuts
Almonds
Macadamia nuts
Soy
Beta Sitosterol
Saw Palmetto
Spearmint
Pumpkin Seeds

  • Excess body hair growth
  • An increase in aggression/starting new projects
  • Hairs around the nipples, chin (ladies)
  • Hair loss (check the hairbrush for increased amounts of hair)
  • As crazy as it sounds, an increase in libido
  • Oily skin

Credit-Isbelle for the list

Why does DHT get such a bad Rap?, well for starters it the KING of Androgens and seriously hampers breast growth, and once DHT is converted from Free Testosterone it can't be converted back to its free state making it unavailable (useless). Stops boob growth

The problem being that once it (DHT) enters into receptors it locks it up, and thereby making Aromatase an after thought, Aromatase is enzyme that converts free T to estrogen. (Aka boob growth)

Some DHT facts-
Dihydrotestosterone is a hormone that stimulates the development of male characteristics (an androgen). It is made through conversion of the more commonly known androgen, testosterone. Almost 10% of the testosterone produced by an adult each day is converted by the testes and prostate (in men), the ovaries (in women), the skin and other parts of the body to dihydrotestosterone.

How is dihydrotestosterone controlled?
The amount of dihydrotestosterone present in the body from day to day depends on the amount of testosterone present. When levels of testosterone increase, more of it is converted to dihydrotestosterone and so levels of dihydrotestosterone therefore also increase as a result. (A Thoery of mine Rolleyes is that an increase in Total T will see a correlating rise in FREE T which through Aromatase gets converted to Estrogen). This is where bio-males grows boobs, (you know, in the absence of ovaries).

Control of dihydrotestosterone levels in the body is therefore achieved through control of testosterone production, which is controlled by the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland. In response to decreasing levels of testosterone (and therefore reduced amounts of dihydrotestosterone), the hypothalamus releases gonadotrophin-releasing hormone which travels to the pituitary gland, stimulating it to produce and release luteinising hormone into the bloodstream. Luteinising hormone in the blood then travels to the Leydig cells in the testes in men (or ovaries in women) and stimulates them to produce more testosterone. As testosterone in the blood increases, more of it is also converted to dihydrotestosterone, resulting in higher levels of dihydrotestosterone as well.

As blood levels of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone increase, this feeds back to suppress the production of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone from the hypothalamus which, in turn, suppresses production of luteinising hormone by the pituitary gland. Levels of testosterone (and thus dihydrotestosterone) begin to fall as a result, so negative feedback decreases and the hypothalamus resumes secretion of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone.

What happens if I have too much dihydrotestosterone?
Too much dihydrotestosterone, often resulting from excess testosterone production, has variable effects on men and women. It is unlikely that levels of dihydrotestosterone will be raised before the start of puberty. It is also unlikely that adult men with too much dihydrotestosterone would undergo recognisable changes. Women with too much dihydrotestosterone may develop increased body, facial and pubic hair growth (called hirsutism), stopping of menstrual periods (amenorrhoea) and increased acne. Abnormal changes to the genitalia may also occur in women with too much dihydrotestosterone.

thank you for the info Lotus & Candace!

I have a quick question; hopefully someone can answer.. PLEASE =]]

I am cur[/align]rently taking Evening Primrose 1300mg 3x daily -to turn my T into E

but i want to take something to turn my DHT into E, or get rid of DHT
Which is "better" to take??? Saw Palmetto or White Peony?

I take a progesterone ONLy birth control - depo provera shot
i know SP effects Estrogen, so I'm assuming the SP wouldn't effect my depo bc since it doesn't have estrogen????

anyways, would it be wise to take
EVO, SP or WP, & PM -- aromatase, DHT inhibitor, & estrogen (progesterone from my bc)????

please someone answer.
lol, my gut tells me to do it, but i want an input or 2 from you guys/girls
xoxoxoxo thanks in advance luviesss!!!! =]]
