Mega period while on PM

#1

I'm 27 and had been taking PM on a daily basis for about a month, lately though I've had a very long, heavy period that's not showing any sign of stopping. I stopped taking PM about a week ago to see if it helps but it hasn't let up yet. Where is all of it coming from?? I loved the results I was seeing so I'm hoping to start again if I can get this period irregularity resolved. I broke open a capsule yesterday and used it topically with a lotion so hopefully I can still get some benefits from it. Or was that a bad idea?

Some advice or insight will be greatly appreciated. Smile

Hello,

I'm fairly certain pueraria mirifica stimulates endothelial nitric oxide (NO) production and attenuates endothelial dysfunction. In other words, the blood flow is increased because of the up-regulation of nitric oxide, which causes the dysfunction, similar to using estradiol. Dong Quia is similar to this reaction, in particular uterine bleeding. But yeah, I would stop using PM, consider other NBE herbs. Just curious, which brand are you using?.

Hey thanks for the information! I couldn't tell you the brand since it's one of those shady imports that's all in Thai. I'm just mainly curious if this is common and if the period will regulate back to normal once the rest of the herb flushes out of my system. I'm just dreading the idea of going to the doctor with this and having to explain myself "I wanted bigger boobs and now look at me".

Thanks for reading Smile

I went thru the same thing and did end up going to the doc after 3 weeks of heavy bleeding. I ended up somewhat anemic. He pretty much told me I had to let it pass on its own, but I did start taking a low dose of fenugreek. Fg helps to regulate and balanced the menstrual cycle, i had it on hand, and it did the trick for me. I stopped bleeding 4 days after starting the fg. Could be coincidence, but there was a definite change after I started it.

I won't touch pm anymore, but you could try cycling it, if you want to continue on it.

Heavy, irregular bleeding is a common occurrence from PM, although the cause hasn't been very clear, until now. PM increases triglycerides, which causes inflammation, (e.g. the lining of the uterus). Given the fact that PM increases blood flow, avoid blood thinning medications, which will only exacerbate the situation. NSAID's and Progesrtone can be a temporary solution, or, just completely stop using PM, the inflammation may still persist for a few days or longer. PM acts upon estrogen receptors, in other words, it's a hormonal agent, and just like using bcp/hrt you'll get the irregular dysfunction. It does make sense to stay away from un-indentified sources of PM, who knows what's in it. There are many types of PM, for all we know you could've used the wild type PM, which is very unpredictable, and has no dexy-miroestrol. Maybe 500mg is just to high, 100 mg to 300 mg per day could be a safer play considering sensitivities.
