Perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs)
The perfluorinated chemicals used to make non-stick cookware can stick to you. Perfluorochemicals are so widespread and extraordinarily persistent that 99 percent of Americans have these chemicals in their bodies. One particularly notorious compound called PFOA has been shown to be “completely resistant to biodegradation.” In other words, PFOA doesn’t break down in the environment – ever. That means that even though the chemical was banned after decades of use, it will be showing up in people’s bodies for countless generations to come. This is worrisome, since PFOA exposure has been linked to decreased sperm quality, low birth weight, kidney disease, thyroid disease and high cholesterol, among other health issues. Scientists are still figuring out how PFOA affects the human body, but animal studies have found that it can affect thyroid and sex hormone levels.

How to avoid it? Skip non-stick pans as well as stain and water-resistant coatings on clothing, furniture and carpets.

We use some non-stick pans, but the rules for using them is not to be heated very high or for boiling water. And they should be good quality pans. My personal preference is stainless steel or cast iron pans.

Thank you Pom! JUst another personal question if you dont mind..do you do them in the dishwasser too? Because I think it can corrode cast iron pans.. The bottom looks so ugly after going in the dishwasher(at 70 degrees) Maybe after that the ''coat'' will loose particles in your food? What do you do? Wash them manually?

No dishwasher for pans. All hand washed. And for the iron pan no hard washing either, you don't want to remove the coating in the pan. I think you will get some iron from using iron pan.

The worst thing about depression is you go to a doctor who prescribes you a pill which makes you worse.
Adressing the underlying cause (and their is one) is a long process, but there are physiological processes going wrong in your body that end results in depression, ie candida, adrenals, thyroid malfunctions . Its such a shame that more people aren't aware that through investigative processes other than "take this pill and see how you go" is the main line of treatment..

You're right Ella. I truly believe that any medication should be used for a short period of time and the cause of the problem must be addressed and healed. <3 POM
