Wild Yam and nightmares? Lotus?

#1

So I know its definitely none of the other herbs Im taking as Ive taken all these for many years (besides sheep sorrel though Im only taking a low dose) but since adding wild yam I have been having the most intense nightmares like seriously scary bad ones waking up in a sweat and anxiety from how frightening they are, is this just a coincidence or anyone else had this from wild yam? Lotus any ideas? If so I will switch it out with hops which I have on the way!

Oh I just looked up mirtazipine nightmares and it can cause them and now that I think of it its only been happening since I upped mirtazipine so maybe thats why  Blush was worried it might be wild yam since I only started taking that since upping mirtazipine too

Okay, so given the fact your doctor increased your mirtazapine and this new evidence that diosgenin (in wild yam) exerts antidepressant activity this obviously is driving GABA-A activity causing your vivid dreams.

Gut microbiota mediated inflammation, neuroendocrine and neurotrophic functions involved in the antidepressant-like effects of diosgenin in chronic restraint stress

Conclusions: The present study shows that diosgenin exerts the antidepressant activity, which is associated with the enhancement of neurotrophic function and the inhibition of inflammatory and neuroendocrine activities via the regulation of gut microbiota.

In otherwords, you could be compounding the mirtazapine by the use wild yam (via diosgenin). This is of course an animal study, but accumulating studies have shown that diosgenin possesses neuroprotective activities. For example, diosgenin could protect aging brain nerve cells by reducing oxidative stress and inflammatory responses (Qi et al., 2019), attenuate Aβ induced neuronal damage by inhibiting neuroinflammation (Som et al., 2022), and ameliorate inflammation-impaired neurogenesis by improving the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells (Cai et al., 2019).

This is fascinating as we had no idea wild yam or fenugreek had this potential. This is a great find for Breastnexus and NBE.  Hug

Damn thats crazy! So with this finding would you suggest switching out wild yam with the hops I have on the way or is it ok to keep taking wild yam? I might see if once my body gets used to it if the crazy dreams stop, I know with mirtazipine even in the beginning dosage this happened but my body adjusted and the dreams stopped  Huh Heart

Yeah I'd stop using the wild yam till you've adjusted to the increase in mirtazipine. And who knows how much the increase in from mirtazipine might impact food cravings...I know it did for me. GTE w/EGCG's @45% could help control food cravings. Give it at least 10-12 days the re-evaluate before adding anything back in, that's what I would do. Honestly diosgenin looks pretty interesting to pass up on.  Big GrinHeart

Like two years ago when I was looking for a good zhi-mu extract source I came across with Akpi. I haven't tried it but there's a lot of sellers on Etsy and I remember there was a seller called something like 2MBodyHairshop that made AKPI + fennel or fenugreek oil to massage breast/butt area.

I guess zhi-mu and akpi do the same thing, x2 fat cells or whatsoever.
