Wahaika, please help me w/routine-insulin resistant.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am a newbie and so appreciate all the advise I have found, but have questions regarding doing this program while being insulin resistant.

Here are my stats
I am 51
Mother of 4 (all in the 10lb birth rate range)
I was a size 34A before pregnancies- went to a 38C with the first pregnancy (don't remember the rest but not as large a growth that I recall) I nursed all 4. Am now a much depleted size B
My weight is 134 lbs
Bust 36 B
waist is 30
Hips are 36

I have never had hips (even during pregnancies) and have always been inclined to put my weight on through my mid-section. If I try to lose the gut I also lose the hips and bust so I always remain thick waisted. ;o(

I recently have joined a gym (finally one opened that I can afford) and run about 3 times a week and have recently started using the weights. When I run I run hard at the highest resistance. (here this is good for the insulin resistance)

I found this site because I was doing a search for insulin resistance and learned about Goat's rue which lead me to here.

I am thrilled to think that I might be able to control the insulin resistance AND possibly fill out my bust also.

I haven't gotten the Goat's rue as it is not available locally but I have the FG, Fennel and SP and WY I am currently "cooking" some of the infused oil according to your recipe.
So what do you recommend for dosages and should I stay away from the SP??
And is there any other things I should be taking or not taking because of the insulin resistance?

Thank you so much for your help.

Hello Nana,

The first thing to know would be how bad the insulin resistance is. Maybe we can address some of that at the same time. If you know the numbers,
HDL:
LDL:
Triglycerides:
Insulin:
Glucose:

Describe your diet. Use the last week as an example. (looking for protein/carb/fat ratios and if there are any high glycemic carbs.

What kind of exercise do you do when not running? Do you do any weight bearing exercise?

Yep, the metformin in the Goats Rue will help. Goat's Rue works at the hypothalamus level by making insulin receptors in the hypothalamus more receptive/sensitive. Fenugreek will also help.

Are you taking any meds for insulin resistance?
Are you taking any supplements for insulin resistance?
What are you doing diet wise to address it?
Are you on birth control (if so, which one) or in menopause?

I recommend the Greenbush 90 day kit #2 (the individual herbs, not the enhancement blend) 90% of the time with some additions such as flaxseed oil, EPO, and a good multivitamin with a heavy B complex (or take one separately), and other things depending on other characteristics.

Sincerely,

Wahaika

Thank you for responding so quickly.
I don't have the numbers you requested but did call and make an appointment for some test to get them, it will be two weeks though.

Regarding diet, I don't think I can be specific enough to give you an idea of ratio's, however I am fairly careful about the refined carbs. I cut out white rice, potatoes and flour almost 20 years ago. I also cut my portions back then also. A typical breakfast is maybe a heaping half cup of brown rice or oatmeal with an egg on top and some coconut oil mixed in (maybe a teaspoon)I almost never eat bread or bread related products.

I only eat out once every 4-5 months and almost never do fast food.

I should of mentioned that my height is 5'6 and my weight of 133 wouldn't be so bad if some of it was inclined to go to the hips or breast, but alas that has never been the case. Even with 60 lbs of pregnancy weight on the doctors said I looked like a walking potato. LOL

I am not on nor have ever been on birth control pills, I do believe I am finally menopausal. I also do not take any meds for the insulin resistance. Although I have started taking some Bitter Melon recently (haven't noticed any real difference yet)

I am fairly healthy, my biggest problem is I am sure I could pack on 10 pounds in 4-5 days if I wasn't careful and my body and I have the constant battle about not being 200 lbs!! I am hoping the Goat's Rue will help so that my body doesn't cling to every calorie I take in. And the big plus is I may fill out in some much needed places also. ;o)

Oh, almost forgot your question about exercise, when I run I where a 5 pound belt and I do leg presses and some ab exercises on the machines. I don't have time to do much more than that right now. But I wear the weighted belt to help build bone density (just as a precaution) It is one of the things I will have checked when I see the doctor.

Anyway one of my concerns is that I do take about 2 grams of black cohash for the hot flashes and to help me sleep and I was wondering how that would interact with the FG, Fennel, SP and WY. (I've been taking 1 gram of the WY with the BC)

Thanks again

Nana,

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you.

Since you are menopausal, I think that the Black Cohosh would be good. One of the things that happens in menopause is that LH goes way up and never comes down. Black Cohosh is an LH inhibitor. That is probably what is helping so much with the hot flashes. I don't know of any interaction with the rest of the herbs. About all you can do is to try it, but take it slow as you progress toward your targeted dosages.
