Hormonal headaches can occur in other areas of the cycle besides the period. Some women get them at ovulation, some right after, some before their period and some during. Depending on what direction your hormones are leaning can decide at what point in a cycle the headache is triggered. There are many hormone cycle charts online you can look at and see if any of the standard drops or rises coincide with your headaches.

P.S. Older woman can have hormone fluctuations anytime of the month from one day to another so they really have to also look for other hormone signs during these times to help pinpoint if theirs are hormone connected.
