About the dosage of PM..

#1
Question

I'm a little confused. I've done my research and understand the phases PM needs to be taken in, but my confusion lies in the follicular phase the the dosage some members seem to be taking.

Note this graph for reference:

Some members recommend waiting until you're finished menstruating to allow the body to properly finish. For me, this would be by day six. They then recommend taking PM for about two weeks, 12-14 days and then stopping to let your body ovulate and enter the luteal phase.

If you're going to wait until you finish your menses and then take PM for roughly two weeks, wouldn't that cross over into the ovulation zone? Wouldn't this would extend the follicular phase of the cycle? Is this a wanted and positive result? Is it on purpose? Or do I just have something wrong and I'm losing myself? XD

I'm just preparing myself for my journey on PM and want to make sure I've got everything down. Because I'm afraid of extending my follicular phase, I actually want to start PM on day 1 on a very low dose and ramp it up to the recommended 3 a day (I have ordered the 300 capsule/350mg pack of Thanyaporn PM) once the menstruation ends and my estrogen levels naturally rise.

I know I am going to have a lot of trouble predicting when I ovulate so I'm just trying to steer clear of the ovulation zone. I have a cycle of 30 days so I do feel a little less stressed about avoiding PM and ovulation clashing.

People don't take it during mens because it can cause pain in your stomach. If you are fine, then you can. If you take it for 2 weeks it shouldn't extend the luteal. There is no specific way to take it. Most people do 14 on because that is what chiyomilk did. In the scientific studies they took it without break. Some people have a really strange mix. Do whatever works for you.

I think the 14 on 14 off is good.

But my main concern is wouldn't this two weeks of PM after finishing menstruation interfere with ovulation?

Not from my experience. 6 Months so far and cycle deviation is only upto 2 days.

I think it only affect it if taken continuously. Atleast that is what the studies indicate. There has been no study cycling it.

Then.. you don't ovulate after two weeks in general after the start of your cycle? You naturally ovulate later in the cycle? o_o

I'm afraid of delaying ovulation because I fear it would throw my entire cycle out of wack which is why I'm hesitant about waiting until my menses ends. It sounds like a great plan- waiting until the uterus rids itself of all the lining and starting when estrogen naturally rises, but I feel that if you start PM after menstruation, the time window you get between the end of menstruation and the beginning of ovulation is so small. I'd only have about a week to take PM if I didn't want to delay ovulation and that certainly isn't enough for growth.

Basically, what I want to know is, if you wait until your period ends to start PM each cycle, is the delay of ovulation an inevitable sacrifice?

Hi Ladyflash!

I have been wondering the same thing about pm and ovulation. There is a really good informative post that the lovely Isabelle wrote. It makes so much sense and I think it's the best way to take pm because you will (hopefully) still ovulate. You won't mess up the natural female cycle. Ginie and Chiyomlik also used this method taking PM from day 1 and then stopping PM 1-2 days before ovulation. Isabelle writes in more detail about the dosage here:

THANK YOU, MELISSA! AND THANK YOU ISABELLE! This information is positively golden, I needed to read this! Big Grin

I at least now know what to expect once I finish the second cycle of PM. I actually have a slightly extended cycle of 30 days so I'm hoping this doesn't change too much once my PM regimen gets going. I'm actually really glad to read that Isabelle recommends what I felt I should be doing.

I will be buying a thermometer and paying as much attention as I can to my body to keep things as stable as possible. Ooh Chiyomilk, give me strength!

This is the toughest question on the board. Nobody has reported more than two regular natural cycles on PM so far. Men take PM continuously. So did MydreamisGcup on the depo provera shot, and idreamofD still does on the Nuvaring. Run.Rabbit's program thread is a nice example of a cycle that works well with a bcp.

Women with a natural cycle on PM can keep it going for two months or so. Then their cycles become like the cycles described in the publication I linked at the bottom of this post:
http://www.breastnexus.com/showthread.php?tid=8419&pid=41574#pid41574
They are either very long, 36-42 days, or very short, 17-21 days. One woman can have both long and short ones, and sometimes what happens after day 17 is more like spotting. According to that publication, the cause is a second ovulation, which occurs at the end of the period.

Because PM suppresses ovulation, it's important that you either start PM immediately after the end of your period, or you are already taking it. For this reason, I have always recommended to start PM at 1 capsule on day one of the period. After the period, increase to 2, and if you can take it without headaches, increase to 3 on day 9.

Stopping or decreasing PM triggers ovulation. Therefore, I think it's important to stop, or go down to 1 capsule, on day 12. Ovulation normally follows on day 14. Some women feel it, some women use the thermometer. After ovulation, it's OK to take two capsules up to and including day 24, as long as you ensure that you are not becoming estrogen dominant. Some women do this by taking a phyto-progestin, like fennel tea or turmeric, others take fenugreek or wild yam to increase natural progesterone.

What you describe, starting PM after the period for 15 days, is Bella's schedule, named after a vendor of PM. BelaBrasil and aimingford did this successfully for two months, but then their cycles became irregular too.

From day 25 to the start of the period, you have to go by the symptoms. If you get a headache, you are estrogen dominant, and if you have bad PMS, you lack progesterone. In both cases, continue a low dose of fenugreek, or wild yam, or fennel or turmeric. Chaste tree berry (vitex agnus castus) may work too. Don't start PM again before your period, unless you feel really progesterone dominant (clear thinking, easily irritated).

In a long cycle, the days from day 25 to the start of the period are not funny. You feel like you are pregnant, have PMS, are worried, want a pregnancy test, and are estrogen dominant (headache, depressed, foggy thinking, low libido), all at the same time. Most women do a cycle without PM after that experience.

Hello isabelle,

I would like to know if i understand correctly how to do it for my cycle.
I have a cycle of 34 days or do.... and my period last like 3 days

So day 1 to 3: 1 pill
Day 4-8: 2 pills
Day 9-11: 3 pills or until i ovulate
after that i dont know if i should decrease cause im not sure about he ovulation date(im doing BBT, so i will go with that) but let say i want to shorthen my cycle.....at 28 day

After day 12 to let say 28... im confuse about how many pills to take.

I also would like to know if it ok to do it like that even if on the bottle it said to take 1-2 pills for 15 days?

I read somewhere that to have result the amount should be like 800-1000 mgs a day, is it true?

Is it for everyone or it depends of your weight and height?

Im on PM since Nov, 2011 and didnt stop....so i got my period this week and decide to stop(not necessary cleansing with herbs) and wait a month before started again... so i give me time to figure out a new program coz got no result and im a bit fustrated.

So can you help me answering my questions?
Sorry for my english, u know im french so, if you dont understand my questions we can communicated in french

thank you so much i really appriciate your helps

After ovulation, up to and including day 24: one or two capsules. Try to follow the curve at the top of this thread. Stop on day 25 if you want a 28 day cycle.

jul Wrote:I also would like to know if it ok to do it like that even if on the bottle it said to take 1-2 pills for 15 days?

That is the other cycling method, Bella's.

jul Wrote:I read somewhere that to have result the amount should be like 800-1000 mgs a day, is it true?

Yes. Except for strong capsules, like Siriporn.

jul Wrote:Is it for everyone or it depends of your weight and height?

800 mg is for 100 lbs women, 1000 mg is for 120 lbs women.
