Hi Guys,
My name's Steve DeVere, I'm a hypnotherapist, and I've noticed a lot of confusion and questions in the forum about hypnosis. So, I'd like to help clear up any mysteries or misunderstandings, if I can. I'll start by answering a few common questions below, and feel free to jump in and ask anything you're curious about.
Q: What does trance feel like?
There's no correct way for trance to feel, some trances are relaxing, some are filled with confusion, shock, excitement etc. It all depends on what's being communicated by the therapist, and how you mind's reacting to it. In some studies hypnotherapists have even had their clients act completely awake and normally while remaining in trance, and the only people to spot anything peculiar were other's that are skilled at recognizing subtle body language cues of trance.
But, most hypnosis programs sold online use relaxation inductions, so mostly you can expect to feel relaxed, and maybe dreamy.
Q: Will it work if I fall asleep?
As far as I know, nobody's ever done a proper study on the effectiveness of therapy when you fall asleep during hypnosis. But, since so many therapists recommend using their program while you're in bed at night, and their clients still get good results, it looks like it works just fine.
Sleep and trance are two separate mental states, so being aware of what's going on will always give you a decent chance of getting good results.
But, when your mind's relaxing while you fall asleep, your conscious defenses are down, and you're not analyzing everything that you're hearing. So, it's pretty much the same result as trance, except that you might fall asleep part way through.
Even if you're asleep for some of it, your subconscious is still hearing everything, and reacting to it in some way. I can't say it'll be as effective as being awake for it, but maybe it'll do something.
Q: How long until I see results?
Well, everybody's different, but in studies done on breast enlargement hypnosis everyone had measurable results after 12 weeks, but some took a little while longer than that to get to the size they wanted.
At the same time, there are a small number women who report growing a couple of cup sizes in the space of a week or two.
So, you're looking at somewhere between 1 and 24 weeks of daily use before you get a huge difference. Just luck of the draw I guess.
Of course, some hypnosis programs are better than others, so that can influence things as well.
Fire away
I hope that helps clear a few things up. And I'm open to any questions, so fire away.
