question about SP and Nettle
March 30 2008 at 5:03 AM lilone (Login Joeykk)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Given that I know that I have a hormone imbalance, and while I was on BCP (which I'll be back on it in two weeks)I was in a better mood, my skin was better etc... what is ok for me to take?
I know I should take either Nettle or SP, but the fact that SP can cause weight gain makes me tense. Is it better to take Nettle instead? Is nettle less potent than SP? And if so should I take more Nettle then?
How do you figure out how much of each herb you should take per day? I read some people just jump right in, but others go slow. Is it best to just take one pill of each herb for a few weeks and then up the dosage as you go?
I am probably the most annoying poster here with all my questions.
Sorry for all the posts. I'm getting all freaked out now.:-/

There are risks with SP, as you know many women had waright gain cellulite however some including myself have not reported this affect. I have never taken nettle root (make sure it is the root) but from what I recall it is less potent. Sp you need 500-1000, 1500mg MAX. I do not know the doses for nettle root.
With doses overall, most of us diagree. Some believe it doesn't matter at all and you can just start taking the amount you wish to take. But others, including myself once again, feel it is best to ramp up with certain things so that way you can properly see how you feel. For instance, you will know what reactions you have to them and if perhaps you get pains right away maybe you don't need to ramp up and take more then. Know what I mean? As well, going slowly ensures you won't be stalled as the herbs will gradualy be building in your system.
Good luck

I would get the BCPs sorted first, there aren't many people who've had proper problems that herbs have helped but BCP is a recognised medical treatment for hormonal problems. Hold off on the herbs at least until you think your symptoms are getting a bit better.

I too would say that BCP is almost a must for excess androges. I have them and I take both BCP and nettle root. But I also think that the whole SP freak has become slightly exaggerated. Yeah some people got weight gain and cellulite, but many haven't, and you can still stop as soon as you start noticing anything (increased apetite too for example). However there is a good alternative to SP which is nettle root, so you don't have to risk it with SP. I don't think nettle is less potent than SP, I even find on myself that it seems to be more potent, because it makes a greater difference to my acne than SP did. I take 1000 mg of nettle root and I took the same ammount of SP. As for doses I think that you can ''jump right in'' if you know your body really well, but if you don't, it's probably best to ramp up. I've been doing NBE for a long time so I can predict how much of sth I need based on past experiences, like how much od sth made me stall, and also what ''side effects'' I might expect.

I agree about everyon running away from the veil that is SP I took it and it helped me skin soo much and no weight gain people. I actually weighed myself a couple days ago and have found I have lost 7 pounds since I last checked and I don't even know how. As well, I take one SP in the morning and one right before I go to bed so if it does increase my appetite there really is no room for that anyway

Thank you so much.
And yes, I am definitely getting my hormones in check before starting any herbs. There's no point in doing NBE is you're body isn't in balance for it. It'd just be a waste of money if I did just go ahead with it.
