Need help with Natural Progesterone Cream
September 4 2007 at 9:46 PM Goatwoman  (Login Goatwoman)
I just started using this. I am 45 with some menopausal symptoms. I still have a period but it is getting unpredictable. Can someone who is in my age range help me with the dosage. Can I do this everyday and what can I expect from it.

Hi Goatwoman,
You and I are the same age. I began using progesterone cream September 2006 after reading a book by Dr John Lee : 'What your doctor may not tell you about premenopause'. In it he lists specific dosages and timing tables that you can follow. I cannot recommend this book enough to any woman no matter her age. If you are going to use progesterone cream then you should definitely read this book.

The timing for a pre-menopausal woman is to use the cream on days 12 - 28 of your cycle. It is applied to thinned skinned areas (inside of arms, back of neck, top of thighs) so that it enters circulation and does not get stored in body fat. The sites need to be rotated daily so you don't build up resistance to absorption.

The amount you use really does depend on several factors he discusses in the book. 20 mg is considered a safe starting dosage, but for some conditions more is needed --- BUT you can mess yourself up if you overdose this stuff.
That is why I recommend the book.

Just so that you know, there is controversy on the safety of progesterone cream. I will post the links if I can find them about this. In a nutshell, since progesterone activates estrogen receptors it has been implicated in studies that showed it accelerated estrogen-positive cancers. That is why progesterone cream is not available over the counter in California.

Anyway, if you want to review what I did over the last year with it you can check out my program page. I am not saying to use me as a guide. I had TONS of estrogen dominance symptoms so my method was to deal with my problem. It worked for me very well.

Hope this has been some help,
waxingmoon

Thanks so much Waxingmoon. I just bought the jar and started putting it on. I estimated what the amount should be and didn't consider my cycle at all being it is so hard for me to predict now. I guess I better invest in the book. I obviously need more info on how to dose myself and when etc. Thanks for responding.

progesterone dosage

How do you get your dosage amount. On my jar it says to do about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon. I just dip my finger in an guesstimate it. Probably not a smart thing to do. The directions state: Massage 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of cream twice daily into smooth skin areas such as the wrists, inner arms or thighs, throat, abdomen or chest. Premenopausal women use for 14 days prior to the first day of menstruation, discontinue and repeat. Menopausal and postmenopausal women use for 21 days, discontinue for 7 days and repeat. These are general recommendations only and may need to be motivated for individual needs. Please consult your health care professional for specific situations. Store in a cool, dry place.

Here's my problem at 45 with unpredictable cycles I can't really say for sure what state of menopause I am going through. I don't know if I am premenopausal or menopausal but assume only after my periods totally quit will I be menopausal correct? The directions are just not that clear to me on it's use. I read some place some use it daily without interruptions. I just know after just a couple of days of using it I am sleeping so much better. I wonder now if I should just stop and wait for a cycle to return and try again.

WOW! This reference was hard to re-locate. This is a link to the article that Faerycat found regarding progesterone risks.

http://www.gaiaresearch.co.za/progestero...erone_myth

I tried to link you to the original thread this came from because I think Faerycat and I had an interesting discussion on it. However, for some reason I can't post a link to that thread. It is on page 27 and the date is April 27, 2007. Faerycat initiated the post and the title is Cancer hazards of progesterone or something like that (all in caps).

I think you would find that thread interesting. The link above is good but very in depth. As I recall some good info was found in the stuff at the bottom of that very long article.

Hope this will be of some help,

thanks waxingmoon. That article is scary and just makes me want to quit using the cream, but then I really need to find a way to relieve the symptoms of menopause. Once a month I am a wreck and I need to find something that will help me. I don't want to "hurt" myself so I will be sure to get the book and read it. Maybe I should stop using it until I am better informed. I have only used it a few days and started to bleed. So I think I should probably stop until I can get on some type of schedule and dosage amount. I did a little more research and found this discussion.

In it someone spoke of Emerita and that it comes in doses. I looked them up and found this. They have been in business a very long time.

It is all so confusing and I think Big Pharm is trying to scare women to death to not use the natural products simply because they want to sell their synthetic lab produced stuff at top dollar. I wonder who is behind some of the negative studies that are done on NPC??
