Fengshui - How much do you pay for your tremella?

Just wondering what the cost is.. I'm considering taking it just for beauty reasons as it helps fight off wrinkles and the fact that it's good for NBE is a plus, but I won't bother if it's too expensive for a bag of Tremella.

Tremella is cheap, maybe $3~4 dollars per beg, it sure takes time to cook, though.

I see, how long do you cook them and how long does a bag last for?

Soak (one "flower")tremella overnight, cut off the yellow botton, chop it in small pieces, simmer for 3~4 hrs, you can see the water gets a bit "thick", dried red dates and gogi berry add in in last 10 min (optional), season with rock sugar. (if you just simmer the whole one should take longer til it's soft)
Usually one beg contains 3~4 big tremella, use one per week.
If you buy small tremella, use 1/4 per week should be enough.

Hi girls,

I've been eating tremella for a few months now. I started eating it after I googled collagen and discovered that it's a great source of collagen and does wonders to your skin.

There is an easier way to cook tremella (I'm very lazy):

-Same as Fengsui, you soak it & cut off the darker bottom
-Put it in the blender and add some water & blend it. (Don't blend TOO much, I find it a little gross when it's too mushy)
-Get an Asian rice cooker (a small 3-person size will do).
-Pour the blended tremella + water + some brown sugar into the pot
(it'll taste better--satisfies your sweet tooth if you have one. Any sugar would do, but I think brown sugar's healthier)
-Press the "cook" button and TA-DA!! In an hour or so you'll have your tremella drink ready.

I also read about not keeping cooked tremella overnight or for more than 24 hours. Since it is a type of mushroom (fungus), keeping it for too long will drastically decrease its nutrient content and can possibly bring out toxic elements.

I usually pour everything into the cooker and cook it before I go to bed so it's ready in the morning.

I have a question, the rice cooker you mean the kind called "Da-Tung" rice cooker, right? It's not the "electric" rice cooker, right? I can not find "Da-Tung" rice cooker where I live. Sad

How did you know?!! Yea it's called "Da-Tung", my mom told me that's the best one (by that she means it's the easiest to use for kitchen-challenged peeps like me).

I'm not sure what's the difference between Da-Tung & electric rice cookers.... It only has 2 buttons: "Cook" & "Off." Very simple. It's the only thing that made making boobie food possible for me.

I bought mine online too and it's pretty cheap, it's like 50 bucks (US). I actually bought 2 of them & use the other one to cook the chinese herbal medicine. Maybe you can try buying it online and have them mail to where you are? It's not that heavy.

You can buy tremella online at shokos.com in capsule form. I wonder if that would be as good as fresh... it would definitely be much easier!

Found new recipe for tremella + papaya soup.

Has all essential ingredients for NBE and it's put together as a nice soup/dish ;-)

Ingredients
1 small not-too-raw papaya (about 5″ long), cut into big cubes
300 gram of pork ribs, blanched
1 palm-sized white snow fungus (Chinese translation: 雪耳), soaked and break into smaller size
8 red dates
1 cube of chicken stock cube
1 pot of water, 50% filled (about 1500 ml)
Pinch of salt

Method
1) Bring a pot of water to a boil over high heat. Add in pork ribs, and chicken stock cube.

2) Add red dates, white snow fungus and papaya cubes into the broth, when chicken stock cube dissolved.

3) Bring all ingredients to a boil again. Reduce heat to low fire, and simmer for 30 minutes. Cover pot with lid. Add salt to taste.

4) When all ingredients are cooked till tender, heat off. Serve.
