Experience with both Saw Palmetto and Nettle/Pumpkin Seed anyone?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello!

I have a bit of a quirky question! For anyone who's took saw palmetto, did you smell like it? Do the alternatives like Nettle root and Pumpkin seed oil smell like it too? I would buy them to find out myself, but they are waaaay pricy to buy only to throw out if they smell just as bad.

I'll be taking an androgen saliva test soon because I've always wondered if I have that problem or not - I'm iffy on the symptoms...

Anyways, I tried some saw palmetto the other day just to see if I'd get any tingles. Well, I did! But what's more pressing for me is the smell! When I open a bottle, the smell is so pungent- like dirty sweaty gym socks! What's worse? Now I'm smelling like dirty sweaty gym socks! It's not constant, but I get whiffs of it, esp when my hair gets in my face. Lovely, I know.

I've never had this experience of smelling like the herbs I'm taking - maybe it's because I've increased the dose of milk thistle I'm taking, and it's somehow heightening the scent? The saw palmetto is capsulated extract equivalent to 1600 mg, and I ate two of these stinkbombs.

Never understood the big deal about the concern over smelling of fenugreek until now. I TOTALLY empathize with you!

Sorry for the long message/rant. Does anyone have any comments? For those who don't smell from SP, what dose do you take? I'd love to hear from you! Thanks Big Grin

I took both SP and nettle (1000 mg in both cases) and never smelled of them, just of FG. I guess you just have to decide if you're willing to put up with the smell. I hear good reports about pumpkin seed oil too tho so you could try that. You know about the celulite and weight gain risk of SP?

Thanks for your response Moon!! It's nice to hear from youSmile It's been a few days now, and I'm not able to smell it on myself and clothes anymore, but it could just be that I'm used to it, which isn't necessarily a good thing especially for the people I surround who I'm sure will be running for the hills soon

I'm familiar with the weight gain side effects and will be slowing phasing SP out and replacing it with pumpkin seed oil, but I have no clue how much of the latter is needed to be equivalent to a dose of SP since SP is more potent.

How did you do on SP? And how long did you keep taking it? And when you took the SP alternative, did you see any changes?

Hi Sunshine!

I also did not have any odor problem w saw palmetto. I definitely reeked of fenugreek and still do. I did put on weight, get cellulite from saw palmetto. I saw a post where someone (Wahaika?) had posted that pumpkin seed oil and nettle root are not as effective as saw palmetto. believe me, I'd get off it in a second if the others were as good. But a little cellulite might be worth it if it means bigger boobs!

Best,

I never smelled from SP, my sweat smells a little herb like at the moment, I am not sure if it is the Nettle or the Vitex though.
As for the effectiveness, for me Nettle has worked a lot better than the SP ever did and that is at lower dosages. I got cellulite and bottomised weight gain with SP and I would never take it again.

If you are happy with the SP though, in order to reduce smelling of any herbs it is important to drink plenty of water, eat fresh fruit and I think peppermint oil capsules can help against the odour as well. Not sure though, if you search for fenugreek and smell on this forum you can find further advice on the smelly issue and how to get rid of it.
